Pheu Thai Backs Chaikasem Amid Battle for PM Role

The Pheu Thai Party has announced its support for Chaikasem Nitisiri as he vies for Thailand's prime ministership. This move intensifies the competition with the Bhumjaithai Party, which backs its leader, Anutin Charnvirakul, for the same role.

The announcement, made via Facebook, highlights Chaikasem's readiness to take on the premiership, dispelling previous concerns over his health. Pheu Thai champions Chaikasem as a seasoned figure, emphasising his legal and political acumen, underpinned by his commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law. Before entering the political arena, Chaikasem served as Thailand's attorney-general, bringing a wealth of experience to the table.

The timing of the announcement is crucial. It precedes a pivotal meeting of the People's Party, which will decide its allegiance between Pheu Thai and Bhumjaithai. Both parties are vying for the People's Party’s significant vote share to bolster their political positions.

On the streets, tensions are palpable. Protesters gathered at Victory Monument on Sunday, expressing disapproval of Pheu Thai's continued bid for power. Their dissent follows the Constitutional Court's disqualification of Paetongtarn Shinawatra from the prime ministerial race. The decision was based on a controversial leaked phone conversation between Paetongtarn and Cambodian leader Hun Sen in June.

In the coming days, from Wednesday to Friday, the House of Representatives is set to vote on Paetongtarn’s successor. The outcome will shape Thailand’s political landscape and determine whether Chaikasem Nitisiri or Anutin Charnvirakul will spearhead the nation’s government.

As these political manoeuvres unfold, the eyes of the nation remain firmly fixed on the strategies and alliances that will emerge from this power struggle, impacting Thailand’s future governance.

So how will he interact with the habitual liar Thaksin, who breaks the law at every turn.

Obviously a man of principles - attested by not dying his comb over.

Let's just hope he doesn't end up dying, bending over for his principal.

I would dread to see Annutin win, that is what I think this is all about, I think the tape leak was a set up to start the ball rolling.

Nah, the tape leak was all about the Hun Sen & Thaksin fallout.

This is revenge for PTP/Thaksin kicking out Anutin, after woeing him in to get the majority and government position.

Thanathorn should be very wary of doing anything with Thaksin, he cannot be trusted.

Neither can be trusted...

The dope dealer though has done much for employment, drugs seem to be the golden opportunity to be in, as everything else is on the slide.

What the people want or decide is irrelevant, history has proved that, and it will be repeated if necessary.

The only employees I see are dope shop dealers, the unemployed are dealers in meth and coke and trying to smuggle dope out of Thailand.

Annutins tinny dream of becoming a drug baron is now we'll underway god help Thailand

The wise one say:

That the people stand up for what they want...   true democracy.
