Window between visa cancellation and leaving the country

Featured Replies

Do you have to leave on the same day that the visa is cancelled?

Or within 24 hours of when the visa is cancelled?

I have a 6.20am flight to Laos, there's no way I can cancel that and leave at that time on the same day, immigration offices aren't open at 4am

This might vary by visa type (and be at the discretion of the officer to some extent) but I have recently cancelled a non-B work visa and was given last day of work +6 days as my deadline to leave.

I believe the 6/7 days "grace period" is typical but don't bet your life on it.

First of all, you can't cancel a visa.

If you are asking about cancelling an extension, what type of extension is it, and why are you canceling it?

Most extensions can be cancelled 1-2 weeks ahead of time, and then you'll be stamped back in until the date of the cancellation, giving you plenty of time for planning.

Without more details, impossible to give proper advice.

Alright, I'm leaving my job so on my last day give or take, they will cancel my wp and visa. Im currently on a one year non B visa

Happy to be corrected but it my understanding that

Normal WP - 24hrs to get out.

BOI WP - 7 days to get out.

I don't know if this is still true but at least some time back, when you cancelled extension, it was cancelled immediately. However, at that same time you would request an extension and there was a 7 days extension granted, during which you could pack up and leave.

Not sure that's still the case.

When I stopped work here, I switched to a retirement visa and had to pay a fine for one day overstay.

That one day overstay did not count against me when I switched to Elite Visa.

Ask your employer to give you a work-termination letter now, with the termination-date on it.

Take that to immigration, and they will cancel your current extension (not a "visa") on that date.

If your flight-out is not on that day, then ask immigration for an extension - "7 days to leave" - for 1900 Baht.

Ideally, your job could write the letter with your "termination date" a couple days after your "real last day" - even just the next day - to buy you time to fly-out - but that's up to them.
