A 57-year-old man has been arrested for fatally stabbing a 73-year-old woman 13 times in her grocery shop over a dispute concerning a small liquor bill.

Police from Bang Phli Police Station apprehended Mr Napakorn Yangnok, a former security guard, following an investigation triggered by the brutal attack at a single-storey home and shop in Soi Jongsiri, Bang Phli Yai Subdistrict. The victim, Mrs Boonnam Saengmanee, was found lying in a pool of blood in front of her store, with a kitchen knife nearby, which was later confirmed as the murder weapon.

CCTV footage showed Mr Yangnok entering the shop shortly before the body was discovered. Initially, he denied involvement, but later confessed after being confronted with evidence, including surveillance video. He admitted to stabbing the elderly woman after a dispute over a 20-baht debt for rice whisky, claiming that he had already paid but the shopkeeper insisted otherwise.

Mr Yangnok told police he had been drinking heavily at the time, normally consuming roughly one bottle of alcohol per day and admitted that he was intoxicated during the attack. He also took two bottles of rice whisky from the shop following the stabbing. Authorities recovered the knife and collected DNA evidence for verification.

Relatives reported that the victim had been alone in the shop that day. Her granddaughter, Ms Chanita Lertamornchot, said the victim had recently come from Kanchanaburi to help run the shop for around two weeks. Approximately 2,000 baht in cash was also reported missing from the till, suggesting a potential motive in addition to the personal dispute.

Police have charged Mr Yangnok with homicide and carrying a weapon. He is currently in custody at Bang Phli Police Station, with a reconstruction of the crime scheduled.
