Internet Speeds Wildly Fluctuating

Featured Replies

My speeds [according to maxnet speed test] fluctuate wildly thru-out the day. one minute i can get speeds in excess of 1.4 mps [cable modem speeds] then the next minute, it will slow down to a crawl [slower than dial-up].

I sometimes can boost it back up by unplugging [rebooting?] my router [allied telesyn 2 yrs old]. Does this indicate a router problem or a maxnet problem???

mention that i am at the 'end of the line' in that my phone line is far away from the terminal and was told to expect slower speeds, but why the fluctuating??

And, my router goes thru a hub...if that has any bearing on my problem.

they are doing maintenance/repairs and maybe that is part of the problem??

It can be Maxnet but TOT as well, i supose that your line is from TOT! If you're far from the exchange that could be an problem.

May you call to TOT at 1177 follow by your Line number and you on the right place. Explain your problems and ask for to check the system at your house.

Check your Router config as well.

I suggest you download and install dumeter to really see the

speed, on a continuous basis.

The stopwatch facility allows you to monitor over a period,

and the totals also give a useful indication over a longer

periods of time.

Thanks astral for the du meter tip....i downloaded a free version of it off downloads.com and it's a neat little gadget that is quite unobtrusive once you get the opacity adjusted and interesting to see the ups and downs thruout the day.
