Glasses Needed...

Featured Replies

My wife needs glasses and we are looking for a good/honest place to go for her to get a prescription glasses in Bangkok... even better if they are reasonably priced... tia

There is the Better Vision chain, whose branch in Khlong San I used for many years, but for convenience I changed to Owndays in IconSiam after that mall opened.

For a fraction of the cost get the glasses from zenni . com , takes approx 10 days to arrive with a saving of about 80%

I’ve used Zenni but it is almost impossible to get a prescription from anyone without buying the glasses from the shop.  I went to the hospital to get a script and they were only interested in getting me to buy their cataract operation package.   This was phuket though.  I call it the eyeglass mafia. 😅

I believe you can get a free eye test at any good glasses shop (larger ones) and if you are inclined, you could buy a cheap pair from them.

After that, many online shops offering dirt cheap prices, as long as you know the +/- numbers your wife requires.

But, not a full ophthalmic exam.

For this....you need to consult a qualified  ophthalmologist.....

First things first...

... For reading or for regular long distance vision ??

If for reading - then glasses can be purchased from Lazada (i.e. +1.0 diopter etc) - or you can try some in B2B etc.

If for regular long distance vision, then an eye test is more appropriate - plenty of opticians around - they all try to upsell, so just be stubborn.

One should always consider consultation with an MD for better screening of potential problems

And, thank you for reminding me that I, too, should consult an ophthalmologist.

OP asks for a reasonably priced optician for a pair of glasses, and you’re recommending a medical screening… what next – a full-body MRI for someone with bunions?

Why stop there? Might as well book them in and join them at the psychiatrist while you’re at it – clearly this neurotic “vision crisis” requires nothing less than a multi-disciplinary intervention..... :whistling:

Just to validate and clarify my point of view....

Also, sometimes, an eye exam is not what one might think, metaphorically....

For example, the Great Woody Allen film, Crimes and Misdemeanors....

===================

Anytime I need new glasses, I consider the fact that my eyesight has changed for a reason.

Therefore, I must check-out the reason.

This is the most sensible health advice that I can provide.

Few chain-store optometrists are qualified to do routine and important screening.

Best to just go with an MD.

I do.

I hope that you will, too.

Full yearly medical...  (including eyes).....  But let’s be realistic – the OP asked for a burger and you're recommending a Kobé streak house...

Depending on age and other complications an ophthalmologist might be appropriate.

Several eye problems become more common with aging.

It's not a crazy consideration IMHO.
