Police in Bang Nam Priao, Chachoengsao province, are hunting the driver of a gold Toyota Vios who forced his way through a checkpoint, rammed a police vehicle and left an officer injured during a high-speed chase.

The incident began on 2 September when officers from Bang Nam Priao Police Station set up a checkpoint at a traffic light junction. The suspect slowed briefly before accelerating through, prompting Pol Sgt Maj Sangsit Chanwanichborirak and Pol Sgt Patipon Dueanwichian to pursue the car at speeds of up to 180 km/h for around 10 kilometres.

At the Phai Dam intersection, police attempted to block the suspect’s vehicle. As the officers got out of their car, the driver accelerated, smashing into the police vehicle. Stones and debris flew up from the road, striking Sgt Patipon in the face and leaving him with a deep wound that required six stitches.

Officers fired two shots at the suspect’s rear window, but the car continued fleeing along Suwinthawong Road. Sgt Sangsit rushed his injured colleague to Bang Nam Priao Hospital for emergency treatment.

Witnesses said the scene was chaotic, with the suspect’s vehicle colliding with the police car before gunshots rang out.

Investigators later traced the vehicle, registered in Bangkok, to an address in the capital. Police have identified the driver and are working to bring him in for questioning.
