Pattaya police were left baffled after a Thai man broke into a police officer’s apartment, damaged the door lock and then replaced it with a new one while giving contradictory explanations for his actions.

The incident was reported on 1 September 2025 by Pol Sgt Phetphuwadon Ratchapho, an investigator with Pattaya City Police Station, who discovered that his apartment door had been forced open between 27 and 31 August, while he was away on holiday in Cha-am.

A fellow officer living in the same building initially alerted him, saying a Thai man had been knocking loudly on the door. When the man learned the occupant was a police officer, he quickly disappeared.

On returning, Sgt Phetphuwadon found his door had been forced and the lock broken, only to be replaced with a new one. The man responsible, identified as Mr Liu, reportedly claimed he had been told the tenant was behind on utility payments and entered to check. However, the officer presented proof that his bills were paid in full each month.

Further confusion arose when Mr Liu and a group claiming to be the building’s new management insisted they had posted a notice on the door for nearly a week with no response, prompting them to force entry out of concern. The officer, however, stated the notice had only been put up the previous day, making the explanations appear contradictory.

The incident not only caused property damage but also raised concerns about the transparency of the building’s management and the legality of such actions, particularly when the tenant had fully met his obligations.

A formal police report has been filed and an investigation is underway.

Sounds like Mr. Liu needs a one way drive out into the pineapple patch.
