You know what's the smartest thing you can do with the money? Put it in a diversified portfolio of banks, US, Cayman, Singapore, Switzerland/Germany, Thailand., and then DO NOT spend the principal, rather invest in government bonds and AAA rated corporates, at a conservative 4% that would give you a cool 1.7 million USD PER MONTH for spending.

 

And your capital would just keep growing.

Yes, I had calculated 50 million, not 50 billion. At 50 million you'd get a 2 million annual return, so 166,666 per month.

I just realised we would be poor compared to real billionaires like Elon Musk. They have 430 billion, we'd only have close to 2 billion.

Ok, I'm not happy 100% about this calculation still.

 

I think the charitable and private army staff expenditures are not fully accounted for

 

However, I don't think you shouild make the mistake that  Mr McAffee made, maintaining your private army in full open view of the authorities could raise animosity from the locals.

 

You should really keep your private army as a special commando, that is hidden from view but can be called up at a moment's notice, when needed. 

 

I would estimate that 100 men of calibre would incur a cost of 6 million annually, including equipment.. A major expenditure. But worth it should you ever need real firepower to deal with enemies.

 

In terms of charity I think perhaps 2.5 billion as spent by Bill Gates are impossible on a measly 521 million lottery win, so one would have to be more modest and say perhaps 60 million. Is that reasonable for charity?

you mean lump sum would be 826.4 million.   I did get the power ball number on the one ticket I bought.  I think I get 10 USD.

A few years ago I was sitting in a cafe on Soi Yume behind the Big C.  watched dozens of physically handicapped people head towards Big C.  Some were limping, some on crutches, some in wheel chairs, some limping while helping push others etc.  I think from the redemptorists organization place?  Anyway, they were smiling as they went.  Gosh seeing that, that would be one of the first places I would help.  Then many orphanages, home for wayward angels, etc.

It is 820.6 milion  now, but actually after you pay taxes you'd be left with a mere 520 million. As there are two winners, each will get about 260 million only.

That's very interesting, I guess whom you'd help would depend on your experiences such as that. Whilst I would strongly support medical causes, especially parkinson's, cancer and similar research, in a way the Gates foundation is already doing that with hundreds of billions from Buffet and Gates. It would almost be better to donate to the Gates foundation, for my purposes.

 

In a way you would have to put in place a vetting process if you help particular individuals. You wouldn't want to help a serial killer necessarily. You'd have to think about other disqualification criteria.

 

I would aim to aim help older men in particular. I think many people help older women, but very few people help and love older men.

I think that's absolutely right, your life would not become a paradise, you'd still be  fat, have mental issues, a horrible ugly spouse, any of the things that afflict your life will not go away magically.

 

I think there is a levelling off point after which having money ceases to increase happiness.

Even worse, money can amplify your character flaws. If you are inclined to drink, take drugs, whore etc then obviously having millions could be your downfall. If you're inclined to become a serial killer then having millions could make that happen.

 

It's quite dangerous to have that much money.

You could do something about those issues if you really wanted but if the goal is more money than you know what to do with it will feel hollow once it becomes a reality. My friend has a friend who won the lotto and got nine figures and might have enjoyed his life more than before he won. It introduces new problems

Yes, you could, but it would still take effort on your part. Buying a car is easy. Losing weight, even with a personal trainer, is hard, ending a poor relationship even with an advisor, is very hard, overcoming mental health issues is very hard, even with money, or some other major health issues.

 

Undoubtedly the money willl provide plenty of temporary happiness, it would enable you to have more experiences than you can afford now.

 

But, yes, it does create more problems, in particularly it would amplify your flaws,. If you take drugs, drink, gamble, pursue whores, eat too much, all these things could be enabled by the millions and you'd have more problems then you had before. Poor relatioinships with family could be made worse by disputes over money.

I dont speak much to my friend anymore but his friend was edwin castro, also a powerball winner. He had to change his name and if you search him up on google you can see he has gotten himself into legal trouble after winning. I would not opt in if it meant my identity was revealed

Actually i havent done much research into the guy myself nor was i interested enough to even ask my friend more about him. His life could be good i dont know

Well, he took home 628 million USD after taxes.As he bought a 47million Dollar LA mansion and other houses and Porsches, it's probably 500.
