A 55-year-old woman was killed by her 30-year-old son after insisting he take anti-depressant medication, police reported.

The incident occurred at the family’s two-storey wooden home in Moo 4, Ban Lan subdistrict, Ban Phai district. Police, led by Pol. Col. Pratchyamas Chaisura, Chief of Ban Phai Police Station, and Lt. Col. Pichai Wanta, Ban Phai District Officer, discovered the victim, identified as Ms. Charatsarat, lying face down with multiple injuries to her face and body.

The perpetrator, her son, Mr. Chatupol, was taken into custody. He told investigators that he attacked his mother in anger after she forced him to take anti-depressant medication. He had initially refused the medication and stayed at a nearby relative’s home, but his mother followed him and took him home and insisted he take it. In a fit of rage, he reportedly kicked and punched her, causing her death.

Lt. Col. Pichai Wanta explained that Chatupol had recently returned home from Nakhon Nayok province after losing his job and was attempting to find work. Concerned for his wellbeing, his father had taken him to stay at his grandfather’s house and his mother followed to monitor him, noticing signs of depression and lethargy. She had tried to encourage him to see a doctor, but when he refused, she obtained anti-depressants from relatives.

Police confirmed that initial urine tests on the son showed no traces of drugs. The suspect is currently in police custody and authorities are pursuing legal action.
