Authorities in Prachuap Khiri Khan have intercepted a major shipment of methamphetamine (ice), seizing 600 kilograms with an estimated street value of 60 million baht. Four suspects were arrested in an operation at a petrol station along Hua Hin’s bypass road.

The operation was led by Police Colonel Kampanat Na Wichai, Chief of Hua Hin Police Station, together with Deputy Superintendent Patiwat Wichian of the Provincial Police, and investigators from the Narcotics Suppression Bureau 4 (NSB 4), the Highway Police, and local law enforcement.

The four suspects, all residents of Nakhon Ratchasima, are:

• Mr. Ritthikiet, 28

• Mr. Suraphon, 23

• Mr. Suriya, 33

• Mr. Somsak, 30

Police discovered the drugs hidden in 17 sacks inside a 10-wheel Isuzu truck (registration from Sa Kaeo), which was intercepted at a petrol station in Thap Tai subdistrict, Hua Hin district.

Investigators had previously received intelligence that a large northern-based drug network was planning to transport ice from Chiang Rai to Hat Yai, Songkhla province, via Hua Hin. Two surveillance teams were deployed to quietly monitor the bypass. When the suspicious truck entered the petrol station, officers conducted a search and uncovered the full load of methamphetamine.

The suspects confessed to being hired to transport ice from Chiang Rai to the south, earning 100,000 baht per trip. They admitted to having successfully delivered the drugs on three prior occasions, but were caught this time.

All four individuals and the seized contraband have been handed over to the Narcotics Suppression Bureau for further questioning. Authorities aim to trace the origin of the shipment and identify other members of the network still at large, believed to be a large-scale operation spanning multiple provinces.

This latest seizure is considered a significant success in efforts to stem the growing north-to-south drug trafficking routes in Thailand and highlights the ongoing challenges posed by organised criminal networks operating across the country.
