Not 5 but ten portions of fruit and veg per day

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has stirred debate by calling the familiar five-a-day message “a lie”. Speaking to the Times, he argued that the real health benefits of fruit and vegetables only start to add up at seven, eight or even 11 portions a day.

He’s not wrong that more is better. Research shows us that the more servings of fruit and veg we eat per day, the more benefits we see to our health. But the story of how five servings became the standard recommendation is one of science meeting pragmatism.

Other "studies" claim that over consuming fruits and veggies can have the opposite effect and not be all that beneficial healthwise.

Listen and observe your body reactions. Everybody has different needs based on individual morphology or lifestyle. Some need less proétein, some need more. Some need more vitamin x x x and some less. And so on.

For the hardcore purists, get a full scale blood test analysis that shows every excess or lack of any vitamin or protein in the body. Then adapt the diet consequently. Do the test annualy and re-adapt each year.

It all depends what you eat with, and to avoid spike of insulin, you need some protein and fat in your diet to 😉

Most important, what you put out needs also to be absorbed and used. If your metabolism is 2500 calories pr day, you eat 2500 calories pr day, and not 2600 if you want to stay on the same weight. If you want to lose, you eat less, and no, you cant just think you know how much you eat pr day, you need to know by measuring each and single thing you eat troughout the whole week, and months.

Most have no idea how much calories that actually consume pr day, but if weight is not an issue, no reason to worry, except start eating more whole food if you are interested in a healthy sustainable life and lifestyle.

Yes, adding healthy fats and proteins to meals containing high-fruit and high-vegetable content is an effective strategy to prevent blood sugar spikes and reduce insulin response. Including these macronutrients alongside carbohydrates slows the absorption of sugar, promoting a steadier blood sugar level. Aim for whole, fiber-rich fruits and vegetables, and pair them with protein sources like lean meats, eggs, beans, or nuts, and healthy fats such as avocados and olive oil, to balance your meal

Its all some damn nonsense!! Jamie is a fool to tell people this! I wonder who pays him.....! Remember that many fruit contain a lot sugar and fructose, which the liver hates! I always say that fruit and veggies are NOT FOOD but snacks! The socalled benefits they say we get from eating tons of fruit and veggies are all lies! Propaganda to sell more of it, thats all!!

Well my grandson says that Peppa Pig recommends 7 a day.

Looks like I'll have to double my day intake of Bounty bars and Cherry Ripes, Cadbury's Fruit and Nut, Marathon bars and Old Jamaica.

How would a "celebrity chef" know that? He's not a nutritionist who has conducted elaborate comparative studies, I take it?

How much Nutella per day should we eat?

Did Jamie say anything about that?

One table  spoon which is 100 calories better to eat peanut butter which have some nutrition value while Nutella almost zero compared to health value in a diet

Vegetables, maybe, but not fruits. Fruits can include a lot of glucides and, on top it, fructose is particularly hard to process. The worst being smoothies concentrating several fruits.

"Ingestion of fructose chronically has contributed to multiple health consequences, such as insulin resistance, obesity, liver disorders, and diabetes. Fructose metabolism starts with fructose phosphorylation by fructose kinase in the liver, and this process is not feedback regulated."

I like to eat healthy but too much of these annoys my stomach. I find veggies best when cooked and had to reduce salad and fruit intake. Some fruits seem worse than others. No studies involved just body reaction.

Mr Oliver is trying to stay relevant by throwing his hat into the 5 a day argument.

He is a Chef, he is not a dietician, and not a nutritionst
