A three-year-old boy died after a car caught fire in a forested area while he was asleep inside, authorities reported. The incident occurred when his mother and relatives left the vehicle to forage for mushrooms, leaving the child alone.

The alarm was raised at around 09:10 on 8 September, when police at Dan Khun Thot station received reports of a car ablaze near Ban Noi, Village 5, Takhian subdistrict, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Firefighting teams from the Huai Bong and Hin Dad subdistrict administrative organisations were immediately dispatched.

At the scene, a Chevrolet car was engulfed in flames. Firefighters took approximately 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control, due to its remote location. The charred body of three-year-old Kittichai was found inside.

Initial investigations revealed that the vehicle was carrying five people, four of whom had left the car to collect mushrooms in the surrounding forest, leaving the young boy asleep inside, with the engine running for the air conditioning.

The other people reported hearing what sounded like an explosion and rushed to the car and attempted to rescue him, but the fire spread too quickly and the heat prevented them reaching him.

Forensic teams and medical examiners conducted a detailed investigation into the cause of the fire. The charred remains were sent for an autopsy.
