In a remarkable testament to dedication and excellence, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) has emerged as a beacon of outstanding public service in the Philippines. Known for producing exemplary civil servants, CAR has seen nearly 100 individuals and groups honoured over the years through the prestigious Presidential Award for Outstanding Public Service.

In a recent discussion, Kathy Olaño, the head of the Civil Service Commission's (CSC) Public Assistance and Liaison Division for CAR, shared insight into the achievements of the region's public workers. "Cordillera is a haven for national awardees in the three categories, with 77 individuals and 20 groups recognised as part of the total awardees nationwide," Olaño remarked proudly.

The Presidential Award encompasses three categories: "Gawad Lingkod Bayan ng Pangulo," "Gawad Dangal ng Bayan," and "Gawad Pagasa." These awards celebrate public servants who go above and beyond their call of duty, making significant contributions to their communities.

Over the last two years, six individuals and one group from CAR have stood out nationally, with three individuals honoured in 2023 and a similar number along with one group slated for recognition in 2024. This year alone, five out of 50 national semi-finalists hail from this vibrant region.

The winners will be lauded in a national ceremony set for October, showcasing the impact and commitment of these inspiring individuals.

The awards, which have been given annually since 1988, aim to acknowledge public servants' exceptional dedication and work ethic. Olaño emphasised the importance of highlighting the achievements of diligent government personnel, who often take on additional responsibilities with enthusiasm and commitment.

"It's vital to recognise their accomplishments because our government personnel work hard, displaying devotion and commitment to their roles," she said. Olaño also pointed out the importance of informing the public about the positive contributions of these civil servants. "Let the people see that there are more good public servants than the bad eggs," she added.

The Cordillera Administrative Region, nestled in the northern part of Luzon, has a reputation for fostering a strong culture of public service. The region's ability to nurture such talent stands as a testament to its commitment to governance and community welfare.

With the upcoming awards ceremony, attention will once again be focused on the region's exemplary civil servants who embody the spirit of dedication and integrity, further reinforcing the public's confidence in their government.

As CAR continues to shine on a national stage, the recognition of its dedicated civil servants serves as a powerful reminder of the value and impact of committed public service. The region's achievements not only highlight its dedication to excellence but also inspire others in the public sector to strive for higher standards.

With a strong presence in the Presidential Awards, Cordillera sets a benchmark for service that resonates across the nation, showcasing that good governance and impactful public service are alive and well in the Philippines.
