Court Rules for Triple Referendums on New Constitution

The Constitutional Court has mandated that the process of drafting a new constitution requires three referendums. Although the first two referendums can be conducted simultaneously, the ruling also blocks the election of members to a Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA). This decision follows a petition from Parliament President Wan Muhamad Noor Matha seeking clarity on parliament's powers under Section 210 (1)(2) of the 2017 constitution.

New E-Commerce Guidelines to Curb Unfair Trade Practices

The Trade Competition Commission (TCC) is preparing to introduce guidelines addressing unfair trade practices in digital e-commerce platforms. This move is in response to complaints from online vendors about dominant platforms imposing restrictive conditions, such as mandatory use of specific logistics services and increased fees. The guidelines are currently in the public hearing stage and are expected to be completed by October, pending TCC board approval.

Ministers Ban Kratom Sales Near Schools in New Regulation

The Thai ministries of justice and public health have prohibited the sale of kratom leaves and kratom juice within 1,000 meters of schools, aimed at protecting vulnerable groups like children and youth. Signed by Caretaker Justice Minister Pol Col Tawee Sodsong and Caretaker Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin, this regulation restricts sales in specified areas to curb easy access and mitigate potential misuse by young people. The measure will be enforceable 30 days after its publication in the Royal Gazette, with violators facing fines up to 50,000 baht.
