Backlash grows as workers fired over Charlie Kirk comments

The fallout from the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk has spread far beyond the crime itself, sparking investigations, suspensions, and firings of public employees and media figures who posted reactions online.

Within 24 hours of Kirk’s death at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, teachers, firefighters, city officials, and even a cable news contributor faced disciplinary action for their remarks. Cases have been reported in Tennessee, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Mississippi, Ohio, South Carolina, and Oregon.

One South Carolina teacher was fired after writing on social media that while she felt sympathy for Kirk’s children, she believed “America became greater today.” In Oregon, a teacher and city councilor said the assassination “brightened up my day,” drawing swift backlash.

The NFL’s Carolina Panthers dismissed a public relations staffer who mocked Kirk’s supporters in an Instagram post referencing the Wu-Tang Clan track “Protect Ya Neck.” Meanwhile, MSNBC terminated political analyst Matthew Dowd after he criticized Kirk’s rhetoric live on air, saying hateful speech can fuel violent outcomes.

The controversy intensified as right-wing activists like Laura Loomer and the Libs of TikTok account began amplifying celebratory or critical posts. Loomer vowed to “ruin” the careers of anyone seen rejoicing over Kirk’s death, posting names, photos, and job details of dozens of individuals. Screenshots of deleted remarks, such as one from a New Orleans firefighter calling Kirk’s death “a gift from God,” also went viral, triggering official reviews.

Kirk was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. Authorities confirmed he died after being rushed to the hospital, and the suspect remains at large. The case continues to spark heated debate online over free speech, accountability, and political polarization.

Key Takeaways:

  • Teachers, firefighters, and officials have faced firing or suspension over social media posts about Charlie Kirk’s death.

  • MSNBC cut ties with contributor Matthew Dowd after his on-air comments.

  • Right-wing influencers are exposing and pressuring employers to act against those celebrating the assassination.

“They are at war with us, whether we want to accept it or not. I wouldn't want my kids taught by anyone who endorses or excuses assassination as a political tool.  In fact, I wouldn't want any of my neighborhood kids being taught that it's okay to kill political opponents.  No telling whether one of the impressionable hooligans may take their teacher seriously and kill someone else.

The commercial decisions at MSDNC, NC Panthers, etc. are sound financial decisions.  Take those up with the companies that made them.

Elon and Walsh are entitled to their opinions, too.  As long as they're willing to accept the consequences of expressing them.  Scott Adams, too.  He's weighed in, too.

Like what happened to thousands of people who dared to question the Covid Pandemic narrative.

There is The Left's concept of Free Speech, and then there is The Right's concept of Free Speech. Let the courts deal with it.

In my own opinion, celebrating a domestic assassination puts the commenter on the fine line between opinion on one hand, and endorsing if not encouraging political violence on the other.  But? Let the courts figure it out.

The USA is killing itself.

When a Democrat politician is killed - no reaction from most GOP and MAGA supporters.

When a GOP or MAGA supporter is killed - if you do not express sympathy and horror, you become a target.

Yes, there is the MAGA madness, but now it is being "encouraged" by the controllers of social media who no longer restrict "hate".

Can you show me a single conservative dancing in the street when a Dem politician or pundit was murdered?

Because there's hundreds (thousands?) of videos of lefties celebrating this week.

And I don't see anyone targeting lefties who are keeping their mouths shut.  Just the ones (like Stephen King) who are making asses of themselves.  And those actually celebrating the murder.

Not a word when it happens to a Democrat.  World comes to an end when it’s a MAGA.

Sums up the basic problem.

Quite rightly. Anybody who glorifies the murder of a person due to their innate vile hatred, shares the same mindset as the killer himself who was full of vicious, murderous hatred for Kirk.

All these people deserve to be fired and lose their livelihood, every single one. I love seeing reports how each one was fired. Keep them coming! This is  happening not just in the US, in the UK too vile leftists are glorying in the killing of a man and losing their job:

'People may be aware of a social media post made by former independent councillor Fiona Wild. We can confirm that Ms Wild has now resigned from her position."

She wrote "he made himself a target and brought this on himself so good riddance to not a very nice man! America needs to get rid of the other t*t now.".

While she lost her job, unfortunately the police refused to prosecute. I suspect in the US police will take a similarly lenient view of leftist hate speech, so at least these people should lose their jobs.

Lots of good news here:

A Texas football coach was fired after he labeled Kirk “a horrible f***ing human being” in a Facebook comment, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The school district stated that it had taken “swift action” on Friday morning. “The employee was not permitted to step foot in his classroom and instead was sent to human resources, where his employment was terminated,” the Chronicle reported.

Following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau issued a warning to foreign nationals against celebrating or praising his death. The warning and subsequent State Department actions included:
  • A strong warning via social media: On X, Landau stated that "foreigners who glorify violence and hatred are not welcome visitors to our country" and that he had directed consular officials to take "appropriate action" against those who praised, rationalized, or made light of Kirk's death.
  • Threat of visa revocation: A State Department spokesperson clarified that the Trump administration does not believe visas should be granted to individuals whose presence does not align with U.S. national security interests. The department indicated it would use its discretion to review visas and revoke them if necessary.
  • Public reporting encouraged: Landau specifically asked the public to bring comments made by foreign nationals to the attention of the State Department.
  • Confirmation of enforcement: Several outlets have reported that the administration has used this policy to vet social media accounts of visa applicants and holders for "anti-American" views.
The State Department's warning was part of a broader reaction by the Trump administration and other federal agencies following Kirk's killing, which authorities have described as a political assassination.

You can have your free speech, but then don't moan about the consequences when you lose your job or get barred by immigration.

Hate speech by the left is okay, is it?

Only when it's from the right should it be punished? But hate speech by the left should not be punished?

YOU LOT brought this on with your hate speech drive, so now you get to taste your own medicine! Delicious! Isn't it? Isn't Karma delicious?

Canada too:

A University of Toronto professor has been placed on leave after making a controversial comment online in the fatal shooting of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk earlier this week.

According to screenshots, Ruth Marshall, an associate professor of religious studies and political science, posted on her now-private X account, formerly Twitter, that "shooting is honestly too good for so many of you fascist c--ts."

In a statement to CBC News, a spokesperson for the University of Toronto said the university took immediate action after learning of the professor's social media post.

"The faculty member is now on leave and not on campus. The matter is being looked into.

An employment lawyer told CBC that Marshall can get terminated depending on university policies, including any policies around social media use and whether she has caused reputational harm to the university.

University of South Dakota art professor Michael Hook has been placed on administrative leave and was immediately relieved of all duties after posting on social media that Charlie Kirk was a “hate-spreading Nazi” after the well-known conservative activist was fatally shot earlier this week.

There's free speech, protected by First Amendment (1st A), then there's company rules, that employees must follow.  Whether right or wrong, or if disciplinary actions violate the 1st A, the courts will decide if contested, but if said company relies on income, money, funding from 'opinionated' sources, then it's their right to ensure their money stream doesn't end due to employee's actions.

Advertisers will end their contracts, as not wanting to be guilty by association.  As it should be, as people, rational people, that don't resort to violence, hit people with opposing views where it hurts and gets results ... their wallet.

Sales of Budweiser is a good example how moral people protest.

Tesla destruction is a good example how the deranged people protest.

Talking about not being the sharpest - he said 40 HOURS not years.

And the fact it's been deleted leads me to believe it was all a bunch of BS. Would still be nice to have that confirmed by the moderators though.
