Clearly I don't need to be well informed about Tommy Robinson. He's a nobody.

Well, admirer is too big a word, but certainly I appreciate his statecraft.

Assainating anyone who goes against him. Noted you are a fascist plain and simple. I'm against the Ukraine war but am certinly not on your 'side'.

  • Yup.  If you publicly advocate or excuse assassination as a political tool, you shouldn't be teaching our kids (nor our college students).

  • The constant (and ridiculous) claim that Trump is in any way comparable to Hitler is what's driving a lot of the lefty violence.

So your not a free speech absolutist......just a lightweight version of one?

The comment said nothing about assassination. You have projected your own bias.

Which comment?  There have been literally hundreds, probably thousands.  Lots of them refer to the assassination.  Many by educators, entrusted to teach our next generation right from wrong.

I'd suggest you go back and re-read the OP.

So it's free speech, say what you want......but expect to lose your livelihood if we don't like what you say......hmmmmm?

You are wrong, and again…you know you are. Full on free speech never existed of association at or away from the workplace, government or private in the US. Unlike out in public on the street where you can literally legally tell a cop to f-off without fear of repercussions, unless of course your boss finds out you made a public fool of yourself who might find that offensive behavior to be too much of a risk to remain employed. An unemployed lackey actually has more freedom to speak as they please in public in the US. Anyway, most smart people who like their job tend to keep their mouth shut and their personal opinions to themselves.

Yeah, it's always amusing when the Euros weigh in on free speech and or the US Constitution.

“If they won’t leave us in peace, then our choice is to fight or die,” wrote Elon Musk on X.

“They are at war with us, whether we want to accept it or not. What are we gonna do about it?” Fox News host Jesse Watters said on air Wednesday night. “Everybody’s accountable… the politicians, the media, and all these rats out there. This can never happen again. It ends now. This is a turning point and we know which direction we’re going.”

Tell us about the free speech in the UK.

IMO it does also not extend to awful public statements about things like someone being killed.

Yes I know this creates the question of what is 'awful' - but the answer of what is an 'acceptable standard' is in English Law as what would be acceptable or not to 'the man on a bus' (google quote below).

"The standard" referring to "the man on a bus" is a reference to the legal concept of the man on the Clapham omnibus, a hypothetical ordinary, reasonable person used as a benchmark in law to define what is expected of someone in a particular situation.

The left the wants people's lives ruined for saying men can't be women, but think schoolteachers should be able to teach that it's okay to kill people you disagree with.

It’s offensive, but not illegal. What is clear in the law is making threats and speech that causes disruption that can cause physical harm, speaking certain terms in a commission of a crime and such. Like it or not offensive rhetoric is not illegal.

Exactly. The hypocrisy on the right is, as usual, mind-blowing. The clown in the WH is using the same language as when he tried to overturn the election.

There is a line between offensive and illegal - as judged by 'the man on a the Clapham bus'.

IMO those that drove the young man to commit such a violent act should be held accountable.

He did not wake up and decide this - he was driven to it.

It seems to be called free speech ONLY when MAGA's do it.

Driven to it by what and how do you know?

MURDER is not a sane response to ANYTHING.  I would never condone an assassination regardless of who the speaker was.  The killer deserves the maximum penalty.

10 years ago, I'd have agreed.  But after watching the left attack free speech and cancel anyone who supported conservative causes (and Trump), I take a different view.

The only thing more dangerous than eliminating free speech is eliminating it on only one side.  The Dems have been doing that to conservatives for years.  If there's no consequences, they'll do it again next time they're in power.

So I don't mind if the conservatives go a little too far.  Maybe the Dems will learn their lesson.

The woman's husband and father of her children was murdered yesterday.   And splashed all over the internet, along with videos of people celebrating.

I'd cut her some slack.

In Germany, a retired man called the former Vice Chancellor Habeck (green party) stupid on social media, actually it was a meme he shared. He got a visit 6am from a troop of Police and a search warant for his home. The reason was a criminal complaint by Habeck. In court later, nothing was comming out of it, but sure you silence people with that. In his 4 years Habeckmade over 1000 similiar complaints. Not much more time left to do his job after that. No wonder Germany has a economical crisis and went downhill fast in his time (he was Minister of trade and comerce).

Also in Germany the left called to fire members of the AFD* in the public service and not employ any in future. Thats right, you don't have to post hate, it is enough for the left if you are in a party they do not like.

*AFD is a right wing party and at the moment the biggest party in Germany.

I was not referring directly to the assassination of Charlie Kirk but rather the suggestion of assassnation as a political tool.

Well, then how about implementing blasphemy laws and adjudicated within 24 hours with the death penalty? That would certainly put an end to the nonsense and rapidly deplete the population.

On a serious note - Trump has sued media companies and won - he has a few more cases going. IMO your tongue in cheek comment is actually on the right road.  Make the defamation laws stronger for those in media and with a large public profile/followers.  Ensure they do not defame anyone by calling them a nazi and fasscist and a risk to democrqacy - that has caused far more violence than any right wing BS. However, me you and the man on the bus should not be held to the same level of accountability - because no one listens to us.

Far too many people, especially those on the left, have been using their platforms to denigrate and insult their political 'enemies' and to create hate and divide - it has gone too far.  That nutter (Alex Jones) who made totally unacceptable comments was smashed in court with penalties, and Newsmax and others who claimed the manufacturer of the voting machines illegally modified them, were also forced to pay millions in penalties. It is time the right did the same and stop turning the other cheek - smash them back and tone it all down on both sides through the force of legal punishments.

Personally believe there are enough laws on the books to go after many of these, it’s a criminal act to espouse language that incites violence.

That is what the left  do, and how they enforce their doctrines on people.  Straight out of the playbook first done by the German Government under Hitler in the 1930s - when they the National Socialists Party.  They forced the people to comply through harsh penalties and enforcements, and they used propaganda and fear to make the people agree with and accept anything the Govt did (or shut up and say nothing).  Their absolute power corrupted themselves absolutely, and it reached its zenith of evil when they started mass extermination of Jews in 1942/3.

Good point - turning the other cheek does not work - time to stop and to start slap[ping them back down.
