Ex-TV Anchor Files Complaint Over Fake Doctor in Buriram

A former television news anchor has lodged a formal complaint with consumer protection police after suffering facial injuries from a suspected unlicensed practitioner at a clinic in Buriram. At 13.00 on 12 September 2025, Chanpriya Chaiwan, a former anchor at a well-known news station, arrived at the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD) to report the case. She alleged that a bogus doctor injected her face with illegal substances, leaving lasting damage.

The incident dates back to 27 March 2025 when Chanpriya saw online adverts for a Buriram clinic offering cosmetic services. Initially interested in an armpit laser treatment, she later purchased a promotional package for facial procedures. Staff claimed that an experienced doctor would administer the injections, but she later discovered the person performing the treatment had no valid medical licence.

After the injections, Chanpriya developed lumps and swelling on her face. A subsequent medical diagnosis confirmed inflammation linked to the substance used. Investigations revealed that the clinic had falsely used the name of a legitimate doctor, who was not involved and that the injected substance may not have been registered with the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA), raising concerns it was counterfeit and unsafe.

Chanpriya has already filed a police complaint with Mueang Buriram Police Station. On 12 September she escalated her case to the CPPD and also plans to petition the Department of Health Service Support (DHSS) and the Medical Council of Thailand. She stated her intention to pursue both criminal and civil lawsuits to seek justice and protect other consumers.

She described the case as a serious social threat, warning that the misuse of real doctors’ names could harm both patients and medical professionals. “I do not want this to happen to anyone else. This is a serious social danger that could cause widespread damage,” she said. She urged relevant authorities to act transparently to ensure public trust in medical services and safeguard consumer rights.

Authorities are now expected to review the clinic’s operations, verify the source and legality of substances used and determine whether charges will be brought against those responsible. Further investigations by health regulators and professional bodies are also likely. The case highlights ongoing risks from unlicensed cosmetic practitioners and the potential consequences for both victims and the wider medical community.

Just wondering about the "armpit laser treatment" and why someone would need it?
