A man driving a pickup truck ploughed through a traffic checkpoint in Buriram, on 12 September, injuring a police officer. The incident occurred around 10:00 at a checkpoint in front of the Nong Ki Municipality on Highway 24, heading towards Nang Rong District. Traffic officer Sgt. Panumas Narangsri, 31, was struck but has since been reported in stable condition.

The crash involved 46-year-old Mr Thool, from Samrong Thap District, Surin Province, who first hit a black private car parked at the checkpoint. That car was then pushed into a patrol vehicle before Thool’s pickup collided with Sgt. Panumas. The incident was captured on dashcam and shared on social media by Peerapong Onpao, showing the officer being thrown by the impact.

Thool told authorities that he lost control and could not brake in time. Police tested him for alcohol, registering below the legal limit and found no drugs in his urine. He has been taken into custody and is facing legal action under traffic regulations.

Officials emphasised road safety at checkpoints, urging drivers to exercise caution. The footage has sparked online discussion, with authorities reminding the public to remain respectful when commenting on the incident. Authorities will continue processing the case under traffic law.
