August 13, 200718 yr On August 13th 2007, the young hill tribes’ violinists of the Chiangrai province received new quality violins from the Maechan local Rotary club. These students took part in the “Chiangrai Youth and Hill Tribes Violin Project” initiated last year by Ajarn Paramet, the conductor of the Chiangrai Youth Orchestra, and Belgian violinist Geertje Podevyn at Insii Thai House, Maechan. With the support of the local Rotary, the efforts of the best students have been rewarded. Two students made a trip to Belgium to gain further musical skills, and 5 more received quality violins. Ajarn Paramet, who incorporated the hill tribes students in his orchestra, will lead them in a very special concert on August 25th at 6pm, at the Wiang Inn Hotel in Chiangrai. The concert “Fire in the bow” was prepared during a month by Geertje Podevyn, who especially flew from Belgium to work and rehearse with the Chiangrai and Maechan violin students. The Chiangrai Youth Orchestra and the Hill Tribes’ violinists will perform in a concert which will certainly charm the audience for the quality of its sound but also for its multi-ethnic unique flavor.
