Heavy fighting between Myanmar’s military and anti-government forces spilled across the border on 24 September 2025, with a 120mm artillery shell landing in Thailand’s Mae Sot district, Tak province. The incident caused no injuries or fatalities, but created a clear explosion crater near a forest area in Mae Tao subdistrict. Security agencies have responded by increasing patrols and raising alert levels along the border.

The clash occurred about five kilometres from the Thai border opposite Ban Don Chai, Mae Tao subdistrict, where ongoing battles have involved heavy weapons fire. Sounds of gunfire and explosions have been reported at intervals. The shell landed in Thai territory during an exchange of fire, highlighting the dangers posed by the intense ongoing conflict.

Security forces, including the Ratchamanoo Task Force of the Naresuan Army and other agencies, conducted an on-site inspection of the location where the shell landed. Patrols along the border have been intensified to demonstrate control and to prevent any armed incursions. Authorities have coordinated with local administration and police to inform residents living near the border about the situation and advise them to remain cautious.

Officials have also formally protested to Myanmar through the TBC channel, urging their forces to exercise greater care when using heavy weapons near the border. The warning aims to prevent future incidents that could threaten Thailand’s safety. No further details on the responsible side for the shellfire were confirmed.
