An eight-year-old boy in Phetchaburi, Thailand, has gained local attention for riding his pet buffalo, Kalamae, to school daily. Thanwa “Fluke” Thong-iam, accompanied by Kalamae, travels over 800 meters each morning and afternoon, becoming a beloved fixture in the Khao Yoi district. This unusual routine sees Fluke mounting Kalamae with ease and grace, showcasing a rare bond between child and animal.

The routine begins at 6:30 am, with Fluke respectfully performing a wai before climbing onto Kalamae. The buffalo then walks Fluke to Wat Nong Som School, where she stays calmly by a pond during school hours, waiting for Fluke to finish classes. Fluke’s mother, Nopparat Chuchuen, explained that Kalamae has been with the family since she was just over a year old and has bonded closely with Fluke during their nearly two years together.

Locals often see the duo trotting past homes and rice paddies, bringing smiles to the community. Fluke, an animal lover who has a passion for buffaloes, began riding Kalamae when he was six, and their relationship has only strengthened over time. His family is unconcerned about the unconventional journey, trusting in Kalamae's calm nature and familiarity with the path.

The heartwarming routine between Fluke and Kalamae is not only charming locals but also highlighting the deep connection between humans and animals. This unique story brings joy and admiration, emphasizing the harmonious lifestyle in rural Thailand.

nice, finally a feelgood story! 😊

And far safer than 2/3/4/5 kids bombing along the road on a motor bike/scooter!!!

Well done  Fluke and Kalamae!!!

What a refreshing article among all the doom and gloom of Thai border issues, Thai politics, Bangkok sink holes, floods and Ugandan prostitutes!

Looks like the same buffalo that I've been taking care of over the years.

It's looking great, last I heard it wasn't doing so well.
