The Mines Advisory Group (MAG) successfully neutralized a 241kg MK82 bomb in Quảng Trị province. The dangerous ordnance, dating back to the war, was discovered by a local ladyboy fishing in Dân Hóa commune. Immediate actions were taken by authorities to secure the area and involve explosive experts.

Quảng Trị is notably affected by leftover wartime ordnance, posing continuous risks to residents. Since 1975, landmines and bombs have resulted in over 3,430 deaths and injured more than 5,100 individuals. The MK82 was found a mere 20 meters away from National Highway 12A, which heightened the urgency of its disposal.

MAG’s mobile response team was deployed quickly and assessed the bomb with a potential lethal radius of 1.5 kilometers. The operation was completed with a controlled detonation carried out by experts. Commander Đinh Lương emphasized that unexploded ordnance remains a significant threat, with MAG handling over ten large bombs recently in the area.

This incident underscores the ongoing danger of unexploded bombs in Quảng Trị, as efforts continue to ensure community safety. More clearance operations are likely to follow to mitigate these hazards. MAG's commitment, along with local authorities, remains critical in addressing the legacy of wartime explosives.

Key Takeaways

  • MAG neutralized a 241kg bomb safely in Quảng Trị.
  • Quảng Trị is heavily contaminated with war relics.
  • Ongoing efforts persist to secure the area from explosive remnants.

I think that's a little to much power to use for fishing.  The fish would be blown all the way to Cambodia.  I've heard stories of people using 1/4 sticks of Dyno mite and scooping up the fish when they float to the top.
