A 34-year-old Myanmar national was found dead on Pattaya Beach late on 25 September, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances of his death. The discovery was made opposite Soi 13 Pattaya Beach Road, drawing a crowd of Thai and foreign tourists at the scene. Rescue workers recovered the body, which was clothed only in brown shorts and police confirmed there were no visible signs of assault.

Police identified the deceased as Mr Myat Tet Thu. Officers estimated he had been dead for at least seven hours before being found. Investigators located documents believed to have been prepared for a job application, suggesting he had been seeking employment in Thailand. The area was cordoned off while officers conducted initial checks before the body was covered and removed from the site.

A friend of the deceased, Mr Sutthiphong, 38, told police he had known Mr Myat Tet Thu for just two days. They had been drinking together on the beach, where the victim reportedly claimed to be Singaporean. At around 16:00, the man was seen still drinking alcohol before walking into the sea. His acquaintance assumed he had returned to his accommodation, only to later learn of the discovery of his body.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutheeraphan Thapasri, the investigating officer at Pattaya City Police Station, has ordered that the body be sent to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine in Bangkok. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the precise cause of death. Authorities have yet to confirm whether foul play was involved, though no injuries were visible at the scene.

So now they know how to get bigger crowds in Pattaya. At the rate of deaths occuring there recently, they should be advertising it to get even more crowds. Right now the city is about as dead as the people joining that rank.
