Authorities raided an unlicensed packaging factory in Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon, on 27 September, following complaints from local residents. During the operation, dozens of undocumented migrant workers fled into nearby grassland, but officers managed to detain 27 individuals. Officials confirmed that the detainees were nationals of Pakistan, Laos and Myanmar.

The raid was led by District Chief Pirunroj Nakdontri with support from security forces and provincial labour inspectors. The factory, covering more than 10 rai, had been operating without permission for over a year and had not registered its workers. Investigators also found that the premises had been deliberately modified with escape routes to avoid detection by authorities.

District Deputy Chief Chatunan Chomthan said the operation was launched in response to complaints about suspicious activity. Residents had raised concerns that the facility was employing a large number of undocumented migrants. Upon arrival, officers discovered both labourers and office staff attempting to flee into the adjacent fields.

Officials stressed that the raid formed part of a wider policy by the provincial governor to intensify inspections of illegal factories and clamp down on unlawful labour practices. The discovery highlights the scale of unregulated operations in the area and the challenges in monitoring migrant labour. The size of the workforce and the lack of legal documentation underlined the factory’s long-term non-compliance.

All 27 detained migrants are now in custody while legal proceedings are prepared. Authorities confirmed that the factory owner will face prosecution for employing undocumented workers and operating without a licence. The case will be referred for further investigation to ensure compliance with national labour and immigration laws.
