A incident occurred in Uttaradit on the morning of 1 October 2025 when a man travelling on a drifting fish raft was electrocuted and fell into the Nan River. The raft, was swept away by the fast current, struck high-voltage wires hanging near a bridge in Phichai district, sparking a fire ball that engulfed the man before he plunged into the water and disappeared. The incident shocked onlookers and left local residents distressed.

The fish raft had broken loose earlier from Tha Mafueang and was being carried by the strong current of the Nan River. Video footage captured the raft drifting under the Ban Dong Bridge in Moo 3, Phaya Maen subdistrict, before the man attempted to tie a rope to the bridge. As the raft moved past the structure, the man came into contact with overhead electrical wires, causing fatal electrocution.

The footage was recorded by Jakkraphan Chantharatipyarak, president of the Taluak Krathiam Subdistrict Administrative Organisation in Phrom Phiram district, Phitsanulok, who also serves as a rescue volunteer. He explained that he had been alerted by Phichai officials that the drifting raft was expected to pass into his area. Waiting at the bridge to assist, he instead witnessed the fatal incident and filmed the sequence.

Officials later managed to secure the raft along the Nan River bank, but the man’s body has not been recovered. Search efforts are continuing, hindered by the river’s strong flow. Authorities are urging caution around river structures and electrical lines as conditions remain hazardous during the rainy season.
