A fire broke out at a plastic factory in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian district early on 2 October, forcing more than 10 workers to evacuate as explosions and thick smoke spread through the area. Fire crews took around an hour and half, to bring the flames under control, with no casualties reported.

The blaze started at 02.10 inside a facility on Soi Bang Kradi 24, off Bang Kradi Road. Police Lieutenant Picheth Rodyang of Samae Dam Police Station received the alert, prompting Bangkok’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation to deploy fire engines and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. Crews arriving on site faced intense flames and heavy black smoke. Five water hose-lines were used to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.

10 workers, who were on the premises, managed to escape unharmed. Among them was a Cambodian worker, 30-year-old Kos, who said he noticed a loud electrical spark near the oven area before the fire ignited. “I saw the flames ignite suddenly at the front of the building. I tried to put them out, but it was too strong,” he told police. Kos quickly alerted his colleagues, enabling them to evacuate safely.

Residents nearby reported intermittent explosions during the blaze, believed to have been caused by stored chemicals or machinery inside the factory. Large plumes of smoke were visible from several kilometres away. Although the building sustained extensive damage, firefighters confirmed that their rapid response stopped the flames from spreading further to neighbouring properties.

Investigators from Samae Dam Police Station and the Forensic Science Division examined the site. They are focusing on whether an electrical short circuit sparked the fire. The factory remains sealed off while inspections continue and authorities confirmed that safety checks will be conducted before the site can reopen.
