On the morning of 3 October 2025, a large fire engulfed a mechanical oil and agricultural equipment store on Sukhumvit Nakhon Rayong 29 Road in Mueang District, Rayong. The blaze destroyed the warehouse, producing thick black smoke and strong chemical odours and causing significant damage to stock and property. Authorities mobilised multiple fire engines to control the fire, which took nearly four hours to bring under control.

The fire broke out at around 07:45 near a warehouse connected to the store selling lubricants, grease, agricultural tools and machinery. Witnesses reported an explosion from a nearby transformer before flames spread rapidly. The warehouse contained thousands of litres of engine oil and other flammable materials, intensifying the blaze and causing the roof to collapse. Emergency responders worked to prevent the fire from spreading to a nearby petrol station.

By 11:00, fire crews had managed to contain the blaze, though strong chemical odours continued to affect the surrounding area. No fatalities were reported, though some firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation. Police forensic teams have been deployed to investigate the cause in detail. Damage is estimated to be worth tens of millions of baht.

Rayong Governor Phasakorn Boonyalak ordered an urgent inspection of the site to determine whether the store’s oil and flammable stock was legally stored under safety regulations. Deputy Governor Kalchai Thepwarachai was instructed to coordinate assistance for residents affected by the incident and to establish a public response centre at the scene. Local residents were advised to wear masks to avoid inhaling chemical fumes.

Mr Phanuphap, a firefighter at the scene, noted the large quantity of oil and grease at the warehouse made the blaze particularly intense. Residents and security personnel nearby reported seeing sparks and an explosion from an electrical transformer shortly before the fire began. Authorities are also examining whether proper safety measures and legal requirements for flammable stock were in place at the store.

The investigation will continue with police collecting evidence, reviewing CCTV and interviewing witnesses. Officials have also pledged to inspect other similar businesses in Rayong to ensure compliance with safety regulations and prevent similar incidents in the future.

What about an inspection of the <deleted>ty electrics that caused the transformer to go on fire?? They had a lucky escape here, right next door to a Shell gasoline station, if the breeze was in the opposite direction, it would be a very different headline this morning!
