A high-profile suspect has surrendered to police in Phuket after allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old man during a confrontation in a bar. The incident, which occurred on the night of 1 October, left the victim seriously injured and has drawn significant public attention due to the suspect’s political family background.

Police reported that the suspect, identified as Mr Theerayut Thammachet, 43, from Phatthalung, turned himself in at 11:45 on 3 October at Phuket City Police Station. He was accompanied by his lawyer and immediately presented with an arrest warrant issued by Phuket Provincial Court on 2 October. The charges include attempted murder and carrying a weapon in a public place without reasonable cause.

The attack took place at around 23:15 at a bar in the Talat Yai area, Mueang District, Phuket. Mr Theerayut allegedly stabbed Mr Kannatavee, 25, from Nakhon Si Thammarat, who was sitting with Mr Theerayut’s former partner. Following the assault, the suspect fled in a BMW, later abandoning the vehicle at Phunphol Night Plaza. Police traced and seized the car before securing the arrest warrant.

Phuket City Police Chief Pol Col Chatree Chookaew confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody immediately after his surrender. He stated that, as the arrest warrant was valid, the suspect would be brought before Phuket Provincial Court for remand. Authorities will proceed with prosecution on the stated charges.

In his initial statement, Mr Theerayut denied attempted murder, claiming he acted out of sudden provocation. He emphasised that the altercation was a personal matter, unrelated to politics and that no one else was involved in the attack. He insisted he acted alone and would provide a full statement during court proceedings.

Pol Col Chatree also confirmed that the suspect’s request for bail was rejected. “The request for bail has not been approved. The suspect will be remanded as per legal procedure,” he said. The case is expected to progress through the judicial process in the coming days.
