Two teenage boys drowned and three others survived after slipping into floodwaters while taking photos in Sena district, Ayutthaya. The incident occurred as rising waters from the Noi River continued to flood low-lying areas across the province.

Police from Sena Station received a report at 09:00 on October 5 that two people had gone missing in floodwaters near the entrance to Ban Liap community, Moo 3, Ban Pho subdistrict. Officers, together with divers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Association and Ayutthaya Rescue Unit, were dispatched to search for the missing teenagers.

At the scene, the road leading into the community was found submerged by floodwaters from the Noi River. The flood water level had risen to about four to five metres deep, with currents flowing rapidly across the road at a depth of around 20–30 centimetres. Rescue teams began searching the area using underwater scanning equipment but initially failed to locate the missing victims.

A survivor, identified only as A, aged 16, told police that he and four friends, all aged 16, had been playing video games before deciding to take photos near the flooded area. While they were filming a video, one of the boys slipped and was swept away by the strong current. Another friend jumped in to help but was also pulled under by the force of the water.

A said he and the remaining friends also entered the water and tried to rescue them but struggled against the powerful current. “We all tried to help, but the water was too strong. I nearly drowned myself,” he said. The group managed to climb back to safety but realised two of their friends had disappeared.

At around noon, rescuers discovered the bodies of the two missing boys about 10 metres from the point where they had fallen into the water. Both were recovered and taken to Sena Hospital for autopsy.

Local authorities have urged residents to avoid flooded areas and fast-moving currents, warning that water levels remain dangerously high in several communities along the Noi River. The search and rescue teams remain on alert for further incidents as floodwaters continue to rise.
