Solar is fine for homeowners that want to wait for decades to recoup their investment. But Nuclear is the only power source so far that is robust and will power into the future.

Interesting Placeholder.

It must be so difficult for him to not use his catch phrase.

I think some have a misunderstanding about solar panels. They don't require heat, just light, which explain their use in milder climates. In fact, heat makes them less efficient. They can lose 10-25% of their efficiency in hot temperatures.

Decades ???  More like 3-5 yrs ROI if sized right.

AND ... partial or full independence of the grid, along with no outages, and a steady voltage.  That's priceless.

@candide picked that up

Nonsense, I paid 96 AUD for 2 months

YAs I understand it, to power a lot of houses etc by solar, you need a lot of solar panels and a lot of land to put them on and land costs money. The airfield where I was based in the 1960s is now a solar farm covering the entire runway.

RAF West Raynham Solar PV Park is a 49.9MW solar PV power project. It is located in England, the UK.

Runways

If you click on this link, then follow it down to

and hover the mouse cursor over direction the is a photo of the solar panel site. And that is the area needed/used for only 49.9MW solar PV power project,

What posters here don't seem to take into account is that they are powering 1 house, they don't seem to factor in the cost of the land, the cost of the solar panels, cleaning and maintenance, which is easy, when you are young and fit or if you have heaps of money.

Who will look after it when you are dead and gone?

I pay 200 for one month inclusive of solar rebates. But I live in a house not some housing commission flat.

How many refineries or Steel mills are you powering?

Look at the big picture I E. Grid scale.

Home owner microgrids are great, I have my own, but no good for powering a country.

A legal grid tie system should shut down if the grid goes down, at least in Australia. I guess you are different or special.

Believe all the lies, my unit is private and not the state housing commission.

We don't export, and many times, I got the grid turned off.  If most houses had solar, and produced as much extra a day as we do (15kWh), then residents could generate a good portion of what's needed.

If I had a neighbor, and they were conservative users, we could almost power there house, even at night, as we have way more ESS than we need.  We usually wake with 65+%.

Good for you.  I can't, if the power goes off my system, by law, must also shutdown automatically.

Saves electrical workers lives.

Same with ours, IF, we exported.  Built into  the inverter, DEYE.  All quality inverters, why PEA has an approved inverter list.

Sounds good.

Sans subsidies and ideological leftist accounting, solar and wind are the most expensive forms of power generation ever invented. And both require traditional coal, gas, or nuclear to be online to take up the slack when the wind ain't a'blowin and the sun ain't a shinin. Just ask the Spaniards and Portuguese.

There's a reason steam power made windmills and treadmills redundant in the 1800's. It was called COMMON FN Sense and dollars and cents. :coffee1:
