A 59-year-old Chinese national was arrested for allegedly stealing a 2-baht gold bracelet worth 111,280 baht from a well-known shop in Wang Burapha, Bangkok. The arrest took place on 10 October 2025 at a hotel on Tri Mit Road, following a police investigation supported by CCTV evidence. The suspect, Mr Li Zhushou, claimed innocence but agreed to compensate the shop for the stolen item.

The incident traces back to 8 September 2025, when the shop noticed a missing gold bracelet during a stock check. CCTV footage revealed a male customer speaking Chinese, wearing jeans, a striped T-shirt and a cap, entering the shop at 11:08. The man appeared to conceal the bracelet in his pocket while pretending to examine it.

Authorities from Phra Ratchawang Police Station launched an investigation, collecting CCTV footage and other evidence. They identified the suspect staying at a local hotel and coordinated a plan for his arrest. The police confirmed the suspect’s facial features matched the description in the court-issued arrest warrant.

Mr Li appeared at the hotel lobby on 10 October 2025 around 15:00 and police finally apprehended him at 17:30. He was taken to the Phra Ratchawang Police Station for processing, and the Chinese embassy was notified. Despite denying the theft, he agreed to compensate the shop for the gold and faces legal proceedings under the law.

The police investigation revealed that Mr Li, a resident of Hunan, China, visits Thailand about once a month for short stays not exceeding three days. On the day of the incident, he reportedly brought two sets of clothing and planned to return to China immediately after the alleged theft. Authorities have formally charged him with theft and will proceed with legal action.
