A retired police officer in Lamphun has announced plans to auction a collection of extremely rare Thai banknotes misprinted on only one side. The proceeds will fund his Parkinson’s disease treatment. The notes, verified as genuine by authorities, are believed to be unique worldwide.

Pol. Col. Amnuay Jongkham, 60, a former superintendent of Wiang Nong Long Police Station and a graduate of the 42nd class of the Royal Police Cadet Academy, revealed the collection on 10 October 2025. Over the years, he collected the rare misprints while serving in northern Thailand, carefully preserving them in protective plastic to prevent damage.

The collection features several banknotes with printing errors, including some with only the front printed and others with only the back. Among the most remarkable is a ฿100 King Rama X series banknote with only the reverse side printed, showing portraits of King Rama V and King Rama VI. The front is completely blank, though faint watermarks remain. Authorities confirmed its authenticity as a genuine misprinted banknote.

“These are genuine printing errors, making each note unique,” Pol. Col. Amnuay said. “I have collected them for years, but I must now auction them for my medical treatment.”

The auction, scheduled for 6–7 December 2025 in Bangkok at a leading auction house, will include rare notes with starting bids as follows:

• ฿100 King Rama X series (back printed only, 2018) – 3 million baht.

• ฿100 King Rama IX series (one side printed) – 3 million baht.

• ฿50 King Rama X series (front printed only, serial 6H 8159168) – 1 million baht.

• ฿70 commemorative King Rama IX series (one side printed) – 350,000 baht.

The auction presents a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire genuinely misprinted Thai banknotes, while supporting Pol. Col. Amnuay’s medical treatment.

I truly wish him all the best with his health and treatment 🙏

Does make you wonder though how he accrued such rare bank notes.

I suppose if you extort enough cash from enough people for long enough then you will no doubt stumble across such hidden gems...
