A 70-year-old American man was found dead after jumping from an 11-storey condominium in Pattaya early on 12 October. Police said he left a handwritten note explaining that he had run out of money. The incident shocked residents and staff at the condominium in Jomtien.

Police Lieutenant Chainanet Phengkhan, an investigator from Mueang Pattaya Police Station’s Dong Tan sub-branch, received the report at 02.10. Officers, together with rescue volunteers from Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation, arrived to find the man’s body lying face-down in the car park below the building. He was identified as Mr Alan Pryor, aged 70, a U.S. national. The fall caused multiple fractures and debris and blood were scattered across the ground. Officers cordoned off the area to collect body fragments and preserve evidence.

A search of Mr Pryor’s fifth-floor apartment revealed no signs of struggle or disturbance. Police found a handwritten note stating, “I am leaving because I have run out of funds.” The letter was taken as evidence. CCTV footage showed the man entering the lift at 00.35, carrying an item in his hand. Cameras on the 11th floor later captured him dragging a chair to a window, climbing onto it, and then jumping from the building.

Mr Krissada Trijaroon, 49, a staff member working in the lobby, told police he had heard a loud thud but initially thought something had fallen from a balcony. It was only when a foreign resident reported seeing someone lying motionless in the car park that he realised what had happened and immediately called the police.

Investigators believe financial stress may have driven the victim to take his own life. The body was sent to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have notified, the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok to contact the man’s relatives.
