A 30-year-old female domestic tourist from Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, was seriously injured after being struck by lightning during a thunderstorm on Doi Pui Luang peak in Mae Hong Son Province on the evening of October 12, 2025. The incident occurred as a group of tourists reached the summit at Ban Huai Hi, Huai Pu Ling Subdistrict, Mueang Mae Hong Son District. Emergency responders and fellow travellers faced difficult conditions as heavy rain made the descent route dangerously slippery.

The alarm was raised at around 18:00, prompting immediate rescue efforts by other tourists and porters who provided first aid and performed CPR at the scene. Despite the challenging terrain and poor weather, rescuers managed to carry the injured woman down from the peak. The group arrived at Ban Huai Hi before transferring the victim to Si Sangwal Hospital in Mae Hong Son, where she was admitted at approximately 20:45 for emergency treatment.

Officials including Ms. Waritchaya Cha-oum, Mae Hong Son Provincial Tourism and Sports Officer, Ms. Mallika Jinakham, Mayor of Mae Hong Son Municipality and Mr. Anuwat Rattanapong, Mueang Mae Hong Son District Clerk, gathered at the hospital to monitor the situation. Also present were Mr. Suwit Singkha, Village Headman of Hua Nam Mae Sa Kued, and members of the Mae Hong Son Mueang District Territorial Defense Corps. Their presence underscored the seriousness of the incident and the coordinated response by local authorities.

The lightning strike highlights the risks faced by hikers and tourists visiting mountainous areas during the rainy season, when severe weather is common across northern Thailand. Authorities regularly urge travellers to monitor weather warnings and avoid exposed high-altitude areas during thunderstorms.
