A unit of soldiers patrolling the Thai-Cambodian border at Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo province, intercepted a group of eight Thais on October 13, who were attempting to cross into Poipet, Cambodia. The group, consisting of six men and two women, was aiming to work in gambling website operations without passports. They planned to earn between 18,000 to 22,000 baht monthly.

The arrested individuals were guided by Mr. Kee and Mr. Toe, and hailed from various areas, including Buriram, Prachinburi, and Sa Kaeo. Before attempting the crossing, they stayed in a small house in Aranyaprathet. Their aim was to work as administrators for gambling websites like WK88, K PRUS 88, Wing 123, and Sien Huay 789.

The group was taken to Klong Luek police station, where they were charged with leaving the country through illegal means. Authorities are expanding the investigation to identify and prosecute the recruiters behind these gambling networks. The operation reflects ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities at the border.

Mr. Mike, a 22-year-old Thai man, revealed to reporters that he is seeking his 18-year-old sister, Ms. Nong. She had been looking for online work and might have either been picked up in Saraburi or traveled alone to meet her recruiter. She fell into the scheme that transfers recruits in stages using different drivers and vehicles.

At around 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nong contacted Mike, saying she was confined in a house in Aranyaprathet. Despite the alarming situation, the recruiters attempted to calm her by offering money, having already sent travel funds, and adding her to an online group with others displaying ID cards alongside large amounts of money.

Mike was advised to seek help from the Thai Overseas Assistance Coordination Centre in Aranyaprathet. This incident highlights the dangers of recruitment scams and the need for vigilance.
