Authorities have seized more than 30,000 substandard hair dryers and over 100,000 other uncertified electrical products in a raid at a warehouse in Pathum Thani. The operation, led by Deputy Industry Minister Sgt Maj. Yotsingh Liemlert, followed reports of a child’s death caused by a faulty hair dryer in Buriram province. Officials emphasised that the raid is part of a broader crackdown on unsafe and illegally imported products.

The warehouse, located in Soi Thep Kunchon 22, Khlong Nueng, Khlong Luang district, contained products imported from neighbouring countries through unofficial channels. Sgt Maj. Yotsingh stated that the items did not meet Thai Industrial Standards (TIS) and were similar to other uncertified goods previously seized. Authorities are now tracing the origin and distribution network of the products.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul instructed strict enforcement to prevent such products from entering the market. Sgt Maj. Yotsingh stressed that violations will be punished both civilly and criminally, highlighting the risk to public safety and the loss of tax revenue. “If these products remain in the country, they only bring harm and risk lives,” he said, noting that previous seizures in March 2025 included nail dryers and other electrical appliances.

The warehouse owner, identified as Ball, said he only rented the facility and was unaware of the nature of the goods stored inside. He confirmed he had cooperated fully with authorities and allowed inspection of the premises. Officials are continuing their investigation to identify the main suppliers and prevent further distribution of unsafe products.
