Probably because the powerful "tribal chiefs" tell them to do so. Without a constant war against Israel, they would lose power gradually. The power of tribal chiefs goes back centuries in the Arab world. The opinion of "underlings" has played no role in the past and plays no role today.

Ah, so the Palestinians were only following orders when they raped, murdered, tortured and kidnaped other people's children. I guess that makes it okay then. 

 

So why were the Palestinians cheering the carnage? And why were they attacking and spitting on the hostages as they were being dragged through the streets?

Our civilisation is based on "orders" from above. The Germans that gassed other human beings at Auschwitz were Bakers, Millers and Clerks. No professional murderers. They just followed orders from above. Nothing has changed. We are humans and remain so, unfortunately.
