PEA Probes Worker Misconduct Over Electricity Bill Warnings

The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Buriram is investigating a contractor after videos revealed a worker discarding electricity bill warnings intended for residents in Prakhon Chai district. The footage, captured by locals, shows the individual riding a motorbike, stopping at homes to scan meters and print slips, which were then thrown into trash bins instead of being delivered. This has raised concerns among residents about possible fraud or disconnection scams.

The incident prompted fears of potential disconnection fees if residents remain unaware of unpaid bills. Concern grew that meters might be removed without proper notice, leading to additional expenses for reconnection. In response, Krit Narattakit, the PEA Prakhon Chai branch manager, visited the area to review the situation and gather video evidence.

Krit explained the PEA's billing process, which involves three steps and is often managed by external contractors. Contractors, frequently former or current PEA staff with relevant experience, handle meter readings, issue payment reminders, and, if necessary, disconnect power. Delays in addressing unpaid bills can prompt meter removal and subsequent fees for residents.

The Prakhon Chai PEA office is conducting an inquiry to ascertain the worker's intentions. If the investigation reveals deliberate misconduct, appropriate disciplinary or legal measures will be enforced according to PEA protocols. The situation underscores the importance of transparency and adherence to procedures to maintain trust with the public.

Key Takeaways

  • PEA investigates after a worker allegedly discards bill warnings.
  • Residents are concerned about scams leading to disconnection fees.
  • An investigation is underway, with possible disciplinary actions pending.

Too lazy to deliver the slip....

I had a similar experience with a Thailand post delivery guy..

He would throw my post into the bin, rather than deliver it to my door on the fourth floor.

A resident maid who tidies the place found them in the bin and delivered them to me.

That's exactly what the mailbox is for: spare me and my guard dog the delivery to the front door!

The PEA office is across the road from my house. When they put last months bill in the box I went over to pay it the same day and was told I was too early and that I should come back the next day. Rather than go back the next day I waited a few days and then went back to pay it.

Again, I was told I was too early and was told to come back on a particular day. The day they gave me was one day after the last payment date shown on the bill which had me questioning why they would do that?

Anyway, I got my daughter to go online and make the payment the same day that they refused to take my payment.

All a bit weird I thought.
