Zelenskyy to press Trump on Tomahawks amid planned Putin summit

Featured Replies

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is slated to visit the White House following signals from Donald Trump about a renewed summit with Vladimir Putin in Budapest. The possible delivery of US Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine is expected to dominate their discussions.

Trump has floated the idea in recent weeks—if supplied, Tomahawks would extend Ukraine’s reach, potentially allowing strikes on Moscow itself.

Yet Trump’s tone is inconsistent: after raising the possibility with Putin, he questioned whether the US can afford to send missiles, citing the need to retain stockpiles. His hesitation has roused concern in Europe, where critics fear Trump might backslide under pressure from Moscow.

From the Kremlin’s perspective, talk of Tomahawks is seen by some as a bargaining chip rather than a firm commitment. Russia has warned that supplying such long-range systems would mark a “qualitatively new stage of escalation.” Analysts note that even if delivered, the number of available missiles and compatible launchers would be limited—Ukraine lacks the naval platforms typically used for Tomahawk deployment.

As Zelenskyy arrives in Washington, he faces the dual task of convincing Trump and managing geopolitical backlash from Moscow. His push for advanced strike capabilities signals Kyiv’s willingness to ratchet up pressure, while European allies watch warily. The Budapest summit could either thaw or exacerbate tensions—depending on whether Trump’s missile rhetoric moves toward action or remains political theatre.

Key Takeaways

The likely supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles will be central to Zelenskyy’s meeting with Trump.

Trump’s mixed messaging over missile delivery has stirred fear among European partners of possible U.S. retreat.

The Kremlin views talk of Tomahawks as escalation; logistical constraints may limit Ukraine’s ability to use them.

Europe and US Deep State want war.

Becoming more disenchanted with Trump by the day. US always better off than a Harris win, but Ukraine drags on, he's clearly owned by Jewish lobby, Iran stunt and Gaza beyond the pale, spending is out of control, he's not moving fast enough to drain the swamp and bureaucracy. Homeland Barbie and Legally Blonde Bondi big nothing burgers

A good weapon but no real battlefield application and it's the battlefield where something is needed. 100 or more artillery pieces would be much more useful than the odd Tomahawk being shot off.

On one hand, I disagree bro. Its a wonderful threat to Russias energy infrastructure and Putin fears his mortal enemy getting them.

Demonstrations in St. Pete clearly show Putin that less fuel means more unrest and grinds the armor to a halt and shuts the money spigot off.

On the other hand, I agree. In a practical sense, a few batteries of enhanced 155s would do wonders on the ground.

I reckon the biggest threat to Putin's energy is if India folds to Trump's secondary sanctions. It's true that hits to refineries for example will hurt but there will need to be a lot of very substantial hits. Russia continues to win on the battlefield. It's here that Ukraine is in real bother. I've seen footage of Russian tanks being hit. This is interesting because it might point to manoeuvre warfare being reintroduced by Russia which means a substantial weakening in the front line. We'll see on this one. I agree with you that Tomahawks are threat but if Putin sees them as a genuine threat is another thing. As for done by Christmas I wouldn't hold my breath but I hope you're right.

Putin is going now where on the ground except grinding out yardage slowly. His chance of an armoured thrust like Pattons 3rd are slim and none. He doesnt have the fuel, the trained men, the tactics or the equipment. His regime is starting to crack a little and he is enaged in a Verdun style battle for yard.

Meanwhile Ukraine is running out of men.

Trump has to wiggle tomahawks back and forth for a while. There will be stuff on the table we dont know about.

If there is a Putin Trump summit, are other leaders coming? Did you notice who were flanking Trump at the Egypt summit?

You don't understand the nature of this war which is attritional. As for an armored thrust like Patton's I didn't say anything like that. I simply said that I wonered if some manoeuvre warefare was being reintroduced. As for yardage slowly being gained this is the nature of this war. This still means that Ukraine is losing on the battlefield albeit metre by metre or kilometre by kilometre. Why don't you go outside walk for 1 or 2 kms and imagine there are multiple drones in that 1 or 2 kms all searching for you to kill you. Add to that artillery shells. How far do you think you'd get? This is not a WWII style war.

We arent disagreeing, I just saying the Putin is stuck with what he has. Attrition.

I think the main purpose of the slow approach is to preserve Kiev, good on you Putin, he could flatten Kiev in one day
