A ferry collided with a foreign-owned sailboat in open waters between Phuket and Koh Yao on the morning of 17 October, causing minor damage but no injuries. Maritime authorities confirmed that the collision occurred at approximately 08:00, while both vessels were navigating a common shipping route.

According to initial reports, the sailboat appeared to be drifting without anyone at the helm when it came dangerously close to the other vessel. The captain of the ferry stated that he sounded the warning horn after noticing no one on the deck. Moments later, a foreign man emerged and attempted to regain control, but the two vessels collided before he could steer clear.

Both boats sustained light damage and no oil spills or injuries were reported. The impact was described as minor, with both vessels able to continue moving under their own power after the collision.

Officials from the Phuket Marine Office and relevant maritime safety agencies have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. They are currently assessing the damage and interviewing the crews of both vessels to clarify the sequence of events and establish any liability under maritime law.

Authorities said the findings will be reviewed to identify whether negligence or a mechanical fault contributed to the incident and to recommend safety measures aimed at preventing similar incidents on the busy Phuket–Koh Yao route.

Is there a ferry boat?
I've never heard of a ferry boat going to Koh Yao.

Yes there is leaving from a pier north of Rassada. Not a big ferry, but a cargo where cars and motorbikes can go.
