Visiting Thailand for 80 days - which visa?

Featured Replies

Hi, My Thai wife and I are visiting the kingdom for about 80 days in the new year. We will arrive by air and hold air tickets evidencing our departure date. What is my cheapest option? 60 day visa on arrival and extend (how?)? Tourist visa (60 days?) and extend (how?)? Non Immigrant O? A different option? I am a 67 year old UK national with valid passport and >THB800k in a Thai bank account, Thai Marriage certificate and Thai house papers (would substitute for hotel booking?)  A brief search didn't bring up definitive guidance. Thanks

OP, you have a mountain of options for 80 day stay.

A Non O eVisa either retirement or marriage provides a 90 day stamp on arrival.

At the other end of the pool is 60 day visa exempt entry (it's not visa, on arrival) + 30 day extension.

Personally I would obtain a Non O eVisa in the UK.

That covers your trip and no dealing with immigration after you arrive.

Exempt + extension THB 1900.

Non-O e-visa from London GBP 60 (THB 2600)

For the sake of THB 700 the non-O is easily the best, hassle free option.

Entering Visa exempt grants a stay of 60 days, which you can extend for a further 30 days at a local Immigration office. (1,900 BHT)
However, if you intend having dealings with an Immigration office, then you'll need to file a TM30 (or be later fined).
Then, for the extension, completing a TM7 and copies of various passport pages + plus travel time and time spent at the IO.

Agree with @DrJack54 and @Upnotover the extra 700 BHT for the Non O visa avoids the bureaucracy of dealing with an Immigration office.

OP, the other consideration is flying visa exempt the airline could ask for onward flight within 60 days.

Most likely would accept your return flight dated 80 days from entry.

Extra reason to go with the Non O especially now that it's all online.

Edit: after thought. Make sure Thai wife enters Thailand on Thai passport.

And the hassle of a return/ forward flight. Just get the non o married 90 day visa.
