And what good is company if she doesn't make coffee, do the dishes and clean the floors?

That's why we have women in the first place, surely?

Nonsense, my wife works, and I, being a pensioner, do most housework

  • Bingo! I read this too! In the book "Hello My Big big Honey".   I would not be surprised if that folklore derived from that book.   To be fair that book was quoting actual letters

  • My wife has been putting toothpaste on my toothbrush for the past 40 years, but it is always too small an amount. As I appreciate the gesture, I have never said anything.

  • I share my partner's toothbrush. I use hers to clean those hard to reach bits on my bicycle. I don't tell her though.   Wouldn't dream of letting her use my toothbrush though.

My God, I don't want to!

Then you'll need to continue to pay someone to do that for you.

You are way too proud of this fact. Trust me on this.

That does not describe the Japan I know.

How recent is your Japanese experience? Things have def cooled off.

Much less people bother to learn English and a lot of corporations stop subsidizing it.

Before it got derailed by the hunting patterns of some of the forum’s predators, this is an interesting thread!

My partner puts toothpaste on my brush in hotels when she wants to pack before check-out but not day to day.

Peels prawns 100% of the time. I’m not incapable of this, she just does it automatically.

Gets upset if I do things she considers her job e.g. washing plates, ironing shirts and even cutting my own finger / toe nails (which I do far quicker than she does).

Wasn’t looking for a domestic helper / maid when I met her and don’t need one - she’s degree educated, works full time and great company but just has an in-built “duty” to take care of me.

Some Thai women were born with a broom in their hands.

This has been a bit of folklore like getting a letter claiming that the water buffalo has died for at least 40 years.

It seems like a very odd thing for someone to do, leaving the toothpaste out all night.

Has this ever happened to you?

No, I am in full control of my faculties.

She doesn't live with him

He has to do the housework.

Traditionally, this has been done by Chinese women for over 5000 years.

It's just  part of the culture.

Get used to it.

It is a REAL thing.

This happens to husbands in China, frequently.
