The demolition of the damaged Samsen Police Station in Bangkok is now around 70% complete, with work expected to finish by October 25. Heavy machinery, including two backhoes and fire trucks spraying water to control dust, continues operating on-site, while safety nets have been installed to prevent debris from falling onto nearby houses. Despite the progress, authorities confirmed that road surfaces will not reopen immediately due to ongoing ground and drainage work.

The dismantling follows severe subsidence that damaged the building near Vajira Hospital. Crews began work on October 21, using specialised concrete-cutting equipment. Large drainage pipes have already been delivered for installation once demolition ends, allowing for construction of a ramp to reconnect Sukhothai Road and improve access for hospital ambulances and the public.

Thanes Weerasiri, advisor to the Engineering Institute of Thailand, said about 50% of the structure had been removed by October 22. The contractor had initially requested 20 days for completion, but Thanes estimated the work might finish up ahead of schedule, with the building likely cleared to ground level within five days. Afterward, soil filling and ground-strength testing will follow to ensure stability before residents temporarily evacuated can safely return.

Watcharapol Kongsawas, deputy director of the MRT Purple Line project representing the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), confirmed that no further ground or building movement has been detected. Field engineers found that previous sand-filling efforts helped stabilise the soil and reduce pressure. Groundwater levels and soil integrity continue to be monitored regularly to maintain maximum safety.

At Vajira Hospital’s Theepangkorn Rasmichoti Building, preparations are underway to create a temporary vehicle route and lay new 600-millimetre drainage pipes in front of the facility.

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt live-streamed an update on October 23, reporting that 70% of the structure had been demolished and debris removed. He said work should finish by Saturday, October 25, but warned that traffic lanes would remain closed until the drainage and soil work meet standards. As schools reopen on Monday, October 27, he may introduce shuttle buses to ease congestion for students.

Deputy Governor Wisanu Subsompon will meet on October 24 at 13:30 to plan the road reopening and ensure safe restoration of traffic access to Vajira Hospital.
