A brutal attack by an illegal loan shark gang has left a 57-year-old hair salon owner injured and traumatised after she was assaulted at her shop in Nonthaburi. The incident occurred on the evening of 22 October 2025, when three men, led by the gang leader known only as “Mr A,” arrived on motorcycles to demand repayment after the victim fell behind by five days on her debt instalments. The assault left her with head injuries, a split lip requiring eight stitches and a broken front tooth.

According to CCTV footage captured at 20:43, the men confronted the victim, hurled verbal abuse and vandalised her property. Mr A reportedly threw away the victim’s motorcycle key, while his two accomplices slashed the tyres of her motorbike. The gang leader then exposed his genitals and buttocks outside the salon, shouting threats before physically attacking the victim when she attempted to negotiate. He slapped her three times and kicked her to the ground, causing her to hit her head on the floor.

The victim, identified only as Ms Bongkot, said she borrowed 10,000 baht from the gang in June but received only 9,000 baht after a deduction. She was required to repay 500 baht per day for 24 days, totalling 12,000 baht. When she later faced financial difficulties, she negotiated a reduced daily payment of 300 baht. Despite paying 9,400 baht in total, she fell behind for five days, leading to the violent confrontation. She added that gang members also demanded an extra 2,000 baht, which she believes was a personal extortion attempt by the collectors.

Nonthaburi MP and lawyer Mr Kiattikhun Tonyang, known as “Lawyer Pong,” accompanied the victim to Bang Bua Thong Police Station to file a formal complaint. He said the perpetrators’ actions violated multiple laws, including excessive interest collection, illegal debt recovery practices and assault. Mr Kiattikhun, who also serves on the House Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights, stated that clear CCTV evidence showing the attackers’ faces and motorcycles had been handed to investigators. He urged authorities to swiftly identify and prosecute those responsible.

Police are now reviewing the evidence and are expected to summon the suspects for questioning. The case has drawn public attention to the persistence of violent debt collection practices, despite strict laws regulating loan operations. The victim said she remains fearful for her safety and hopes the authorities will ensure justice is served.

These savages should be imprisoned for a very long time. My wife's niece was attacked and punched in the face while she was holding her baby by a gang of them.

These Loan Sharks are the skum of the earth and are everywhere.  In some cases people loose their land or house or cars or motor bikes.  Many cases where people borrow an amount and have to pay double back to them within weeks or a few months.  I guess they are kicking cash to local police or government officals.  Skum!
