Heavy traffic hit Bangkok on October 27 as schools restarted, with significant congestion around Samsen Road near Vachira Hospital. The road subsidence in this area led to full lane closures, exacerbating traffic woes. Forceful detours and increased vehicle volume were reported by Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officers, beginning even before 6am.

Recent events included the reopening of schools, contributing to the surge in traffic. Additionally, the congestion is heightened by road conditions, specifically the subsidence near Samsen Road. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt held a meeting at 10am to discuss both immediate and long-term traffic solutions.

To address the situation, BMA has implemented temporary control measures, adjusting routes such as Nakhon Ratchasima Road to handle additional traffic. Key intersections like Sanghi and Suan Ruedeer are modified for better flow, and adjustments include special lanes to prevent gridlock. Feeder bus services around Vachira Hospital increased to accommodate more students and staff.

Shuttle services have expanded, with three new routes linking Sirindhorn MRT directly to local schools. In light of taxis avoiding Vachira Hospital pickups, additional support is provided by city inspectors to assist patient transportation. Traffic police and inspectors are deployed extensively at critical points to manage flow.

Looking forward, BMA is considering promoting electric ferry services and adding minivans or small buses to ease congestion during peak hours. There is ongoing improvement with the installation of new traffic signals and signs to prevent accidents along key roads. These measures aim to alleviate some of the immediate impacts of current road restrictions.

Key Takeaways

  • Traffic congestion in Bangkok worsened with school reopening.
  • BMA implements temporary adjustments to ease road conditions.
  • Future plans include promoting alternative transport methods.

Parents want to show off their new cars at school. They drop the kids and ride back home or to work alone. There's no real concept of community when it comes to cars. Where are the rideshares. They should be promoted by every school, online & on bulletin boards. Why aren't PTAs behind this idea?

There's no excuse for traffic jams except selfishness. Close roads except for public transport, buses, taxis, Grab, etc. No trucks into the city before 10pm or after 6am.
