Phuket has intensified its anti-drug efforts, aligning with the national Quick Big Win policy to combat narcotics through a unified approach. The campaign aims for immediate action within four months, bringing together police, health officials, and government leaders to tackle drug issues. The initiative was reinforced during a high-level meeting at Phuket Provincial Hall, chaired by Governor Saransak Srikruanetra.

The strategy falls under the national initiative "Uniting Power, Love and Faith to Address the Integrated Drug Problem," launched by Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Saram in Buriram. Governor Saransak highlighted that while drug activity in Phuket has decreased by 49%, continuous prevention and rehabilitation are crucial for long-term success. The plan involves coordination among police, health agencies, and local entities, with three deputy governors assigned to oversee efforts across Phuket's districts.

Vice Governor Adul Chuthong emphasized alignment with national standards, aiming for clear outcomes and public satisfaction. Provincial Police Chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum noted the island's geography helps in controlling trafficking, with most local cases involving small-scale dealers. The police are diligently working toward meeting enforcement targets through consistent monitoring and arrests.

Thiraphong Chuaychu, Provincial Administrative Chief, suggested enhanced screenings for migrant workers, including urine tests before they receive work permits. Concurrently, Dr. Banphot Panklueb from the Phuket Public Health Office announced plans to expand the province’s drug rehabilitation services, aiming to support recovering addicts in their societal reintegration. Recent data shows 2,965 drug-related arrests in the 2025 fiscal year, marking a 1.4% increase from the previous year.

Despite a 4.3% decrease in arrests in September, Governor Saransak called on the community for active participation. He stressed that combating drugs is a collective duty, essential for maintaining Phuket as a model in anti-drug efforts.

Key Takeaways

  • Phuket intensifies efforts in line with national anti-drug policy.
