A deputy superintendent in the Metropolitan Police was dismissed on October 28 following his arrest for alleged involvement with a call centre scam. The officer, along with others, is accused of defrauding victims through fraudulent investment schemes. A disciplinary committee has been established by Pol. Lt. Gen. Sayam Boonsom to address the issue.

The investigation began in May after a victim reported losing over 1.2 million baht through an online trading platform. Initially, the victim was able to withdraw funds, but later realized she was defrauded when further withdrawals were blocked. This complaint prompted authorities to dig deeper, leading to multiple arrests.

John Pol. Maj. Gen. Kiattikul Sonthinet reported that 16 out of 24 suspects linked to the cybercrime ring have been detained. Authorities seized nine cars, luxury handbags, jewelry, cash, and multiple electronic devices, totaling over 21 million baht. Arrest warrants for five additional suspects were also issued during the investigation.

On October 7, two police teams conducted raids in Bangkok and Udon Thani, where the involved police officer was apprehended. During questioning, he admitted to consulting for a company through which his family members opened mule accounts, earning a significant monthly salary. He has been granted bail, unlike his relatives who remain detained.

Key Takeaways

  • A high-ranking police officer was dismissed for involvement in a scam.
  • The arrest follows a large-scale investigation into a fraudulent investment platform.
  • Authorities have seized assets worth over 21 million baht linked to the crime.

Hopefully he gets more than just "dismissal". Such as add to that a long prison sentence to deter other RTP from doing the same.

Sacked but not imprisoned is the norm for the police - unless it is Joe Ferrari.
