Chinese tourists are once again flocking to Quảng Ninh, Vietnam, marking a significant rebound after pandemic-induced declines. New connections by air, sea, and land have invigorated the local tourism industry, essential for the province's economy. Previously, Chinese tourists made up 25% of visitors from China to Vietnam, and 40% of international arrivals to Quảng Ninh; however, travel restrictions had halted this influx.

Large-scale events such as a MICE tour with nearly 1,000 Chinese visitors, new cruise routes like Beihai–Hạ Long, and charter flights between Shenzhen and Vân Đồn signify strong signs of recovery. Quảng Ninh aims to welcome 1.25 million international arrivals in the fourth quarter, striving to meet its annual target of 21.2 million visitors, including over 4 million foreigners. The People’s Committee of Móng Cái 1 Ward reported over 5.25 million border crossings in the first nine months of 2025, highlighting improved travel and economic activities.

Local authorities are working with various regions to introduce diverse tour routes and enhance nightlife offerings to attract more Chinese visitors. Upgrades and new infrastructure, such as the expressway from Fangcheng to Nanning and improvements to national highway No.18C, are underway to support these efforts. The Hoành Mô – Dongzhong border gate sees substantial traffic, with a peak of 1,600 Chinese tourists in August and during Vietnam’s National Day holiday in September.

In November, Quảng Ninh will resume MICE tourist cruises, including the Beihai–Ha Long route after a decade-long pause. A cultural tourism group from Guangxi recently surveyed the area to promote two-way cruise tourism, with regular operations set for November 2025, enhancing travel experiences in the region. Additionally, Vân Đồn International Airport will commence charter flights from Shenzhen on November 1, boosting connectivity and accessibility.

The consistent rise in overnight stays by Chinese tourists—averaging 126.5% annually over five years—signals a strong recovery. Móng Cái International Border Gate alone receives about 300,000 Chinese visitors yearly. By year's end, Quảng Ninh expects to host around 350,000-400,000 Chinese tourists, drawn by high-end tours and luxury accommodations, and welcomes upcoming Beihai – Hạ Long cruises.

Key Takeaways

  • Chinese tourists are returning in numbers, revitalizing Quảng Ninh's tourism.
  • Infrastructure improvements enhance travel and regional connections.
  • Upcoming cruises and flights aim to sustain tourism growth.

Pity Quang Ninh. Chinese tourists are the scourge of the world and ruin everything everywhere they go. It's actually one of their main points of going to a place -to ruin it.
