A 28-year-old man was seriously injured after being shot by his girlfriend’s brother in Phatthalung province. The attack took place in front of the victim’s mother, who is a deputy village head, following repeated quarrels between the young couple. Police have launched a manhunt for the gunman, who fled the scene with three accomplices.

The shooting occurred on 29 October 2025 at around 16.10 at a house in Tha Khae subdistrict, Mueang Phatthalung district. Police officer Pol Lt Prasert Duang-iad from Mueang Phatthalung Police Station was called to investigate after reports that four armed men had arrived in a Toyota Fortuner and opened fire. The house belongs to Mrs. Nipa, the victim’s mother and a local deputy village head.

At the scene, officers found bloodstains behind the house, two spent 9mm cartridges, one unused bullet and three bullet holes in the wall. The victim, identified only as “Phak Kat” (surname withheld), aged 28, had been shot four times in the chest. He was rushed to Phatthalung Hospital in critical condition.

Initial investigations revealed that the main suspect, identified as “Arm,” the brother of the victim’s girlfriend, arrived with three others carrying firearms. They demanded to see the victim and engaged in a heated argument. During the confrontation, Arm drew a gun and fired several shots in front of the victim’s mother before fleeing the scene.

Police learned that earlier that morning, the victim had argued violently with his girlfriend, who suffers from depression. The quarrel escalated to physical violence and the victim allegedly ordered her to leave his house. Later that afternoon, her brother, angered by the incident, led a group to the victim’s home, resulting in the shooting.

The girlfriend, who was receiving treatment at Phatthalung Hospital, reportedly walked to the emergency room upon hearing that her boyfriend had been shot. Witnesses said she collapsed in shock, prompting medical staff to assist and return her to her ward. The victim’s mother was heard shouting, “Her brother is the one who shot him!”.

Police from Mueang Phatthalung Station are now gathering witness statements and evidence while tracking down Arm and his associates. Authorities confirmed that charges will be filed once the suspects are in custody.
