Thailand's Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have dismantled an illegal manufacturing setup for a well-known herbal product brand, seizing counterfeit items worth over 100 million baht. The operation targeted four sites, where authorities confiscated over 2.35 million items. The raid comes after an urgent FDA alert regarding microbial contamination in the brand's popular herbal inhalers.

The Consumer Protection Police Division (PCPD) reported that the contamination could lead to serious respiratory infections. Investigations revealed unauthorized production despite the company's official license listing a factory in Bang Khae, Bangkok. The operation is labeled as unlicensed production of "counterfeit herbal products."

A total of nine product lines were seized, including 257,760 units of Herbal Inhaler Formula 1 and 1.9 million units of tube-style inhalers. All items were handed over to the PCPD for legal proceedings. The company is facing charges related to the production of counterfeit and unlicensed herbal goods.

Mr. Teerapong, founder of Hong Thai, expressed that the raid severely damaged his business and 20-year reputation. He clarified that the facility in Phutthamonthon Sai 3 was not manufacturing, but rather utilized for labeling and packing. Addressing the contamination issue, he stated they treated the products to eliminate microbes.

Mr. Teerapong disclosed plans for a new factory, delayed by bureaucratic hurdles. He lamented that only 10% of their customers retain trust, fearing future repercussions. The founder sought understanding and a chance to rectify the situation, reiterating his commitment to honest business practices.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand's authorities dismantled a major counterfeit herbal operation.
